Proparamedics Unveils NI’s First Off-Road Recovery Ambulances in Major Expansion Drive

Proparamedics (PPM) part of the island-wide MCL Group and one of Ireland’s leading independent ambulance providers – has launched Northern Ireland’s first off-road recovery ambulances, marking a major step forward in specialist emergency response and event medical care.

The introduction of two new off-road units to the MCL Group marks the completion of a £500,000 investment in new premises, fleet expansion, and enhanced operational capability as part of the company's relocation to Maryland Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Belfast from Weaver’s Court.

Custom-made, the new off-road recovery ambulances are purpose-built to operate where traditional vehicles cannot – making them ideally suited for outdoor events such as racecourses. Their all-terrain capabilities allow medical teams to reach patients quickly and safely, even in environments with limited access, enabling timely treatment before transferring patients to an awaiting on-road ambulance.

The launch of the off-road units is the latest in a series of innovations within the business, as Proparamedics strengthens its services across NI. Its new headquarters at Maryland Industrial Estate provides expanded operational space, modern fleet facilities and excellent transport links to major routes, enabling the organisation to scale its services across the region.

The move supports its work with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Health Trusts, and growth across all divisions, including event medical cover, private patient transport, repatriation services and specialist clinical personnel support.

A state-of-the-art training facility is also set to open at the site in the New Year, offering an expanded programme of accredited first aid, emergency care and advanced medical training courses for individuals, businesses and community organisations.

David Brophy, Managing Director of Proparamedics, says the arrival of the off-road recovery ambulances represents an important evolution in the organisation’s service offering: “The introduction of Northern Ireland’s first off-road recovery ambulances is a game-changer for event medical care and emergency access in remote locations. These vehicles allow our crews to reach patients in environments where standard ambulances simply cannot go. Alongside our investment in new premises, training facilities and fleet growth, they reinforce our commitment to delivering innovative, reliable and responsive medical services.”

For MCL Group Chairman, Paul M. ffrench-O’Carroll, the investment underscores the continued ambition of the wider organisation following the integration of Proparamedics into the Group: Proparamedics has a long and respected history of delivering outstanding care, and this investment is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting its continued growth and introduction of new innovations within private ambulance provision. “Establishing a modern, strategically located headquarters not only enhances operational capability but also reinforces our mission to build the strongest, most advanced private ambulance provider on the island of Ireland.

“This is just phase one of our growth plan. In the New Year, our state-of-the-art training facility will expand our ability to equip and educate people at all levels – something that is central to the MCL Group vision.”

The new off-road units are now operational and will support clients across a wide range of outdoor and hard-to-access environments throughout Northern Ireland.
